This year India is celebrating 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Sikh Guru and founder of the Sikh faith. The Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Indian community organized various programmes from 12 – 18 November, 2019 for commemorating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
On 13 November, 2019 Ambassador Pavan Kapoor joined celebrations of 550th Prakash Purab at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai. During the celebrations, the Ambassador took a tour of a painting exhibition on life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and addressed the gathering. The event was attended by hundreds of Sikh & others from the Indian & Emirati community. H.E. Shaikha Lubna Al Qassimi, the UAE Minster of State for Tolerance formally had inaugurated the painting exhibition.
On 18 November, 2019 a programme was organized at the Auditorium of the Embassy for celebrating 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji. During the programme documentaries on Gurubani and life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji were screened. A short video “Sarbat da Bhala” meaning “Good of Humanity” was also screened. The event was attended by the Indian community in UAE. Mr. Saleh Ali Al Maazi, Section Head, Tolerance & National Identity from the Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi was the Guest of the Honor for the event. The event was addressed by Ambassador Pavan Kapoor. Dr. Charandeep Kaur, a scholar and learner of Gurmat studies enlightened the audience with her speech on life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji. On this occasion, commemorative postal stamps issued by India Post to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, were released by the Ambassador and the Guest of Honor. The Ambassador also presented books on Sikhism to Shri S S Kandhari, Chairman, Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai for their library. The programme concluded with screening of a short video “Gurbani Shabad – Allah Pakan Pak Hai” by Emirati Singer Yasser Habib.
